Garden 102: Growing Fruit in Augusta
& Extending the Harvest. Wed., March 25th, 6:00 p.m.
Service Description
Instructor: Coy Hancock Description: Growing fruit in Augusta requires more than planting what looks good at the nursery. In this intermediate class, we’ll focus exclusively on fruit that performs well in our climate — including blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, figs, peaches, pears, and more. Students will learn how to select varieties suited to our chill hours, heat, and humidity, while avoiding common local pitfalls. We’ll also cover practical season extension strategies to protect blossoms from late frosts, reduce summer stress, and extend harvest windows. Outcome: Students leave prepared to confidently select fruit for the Augusta area and protect their harvest for greater reliability and yield.
